Polysomnography (PSG) is the international gold standard diagnostic examination for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), central apnea, nocturnal hypoxemia, and sleep-related movement disorders. Conducted in a quiet private hospital suite at Delhi Heart Institute, Bathinda, multi-channel sensors record sleep architecture, apnea events, and oxygen nadirs throughout the night.

What Happens During the Procedure?

Evening Arrival & Electrode Application

Patient arrives at 9:00 PM; technologist attaches comfortable surface electrodes to scalp, chest, and finger.

Continuous Overnight Polysomnography

Patient sleeps naturally while equipment tracks EEG brain waves, airflow channels, chest effort, and SpO2 levels.

Morning Sensor Removal & Data Scoring

Sensors are removed gently at 6:00 AM, and thousands of data epochs are scored for Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI).

Clinical Consultation & CPAP Prescription

Dr. Kashyap reviews the sleep architecture graph and provides personalized CPAP pressure settings or lifestyle plan.

Preparation Instructions

How to Prepare Before Coming to the Hospital

  • Avoid caffeinated drinks (coffee, tea, cola, energy drinks) after 2:00 PM on test day
  • Wash hair with shampoo and avoid hair oils or gels to ensure good electrode contact
  • Bring your regular nightwear and any daily prescribed non-sedative medications
  • Avoid daytime naps on the afternoon preceding your overnight study
